He has overseen major projects in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution,driving modernization initiatives to ensure sustainable and reliable energy supply.His contributions have been instrumental in advancing Egypt’s national energy strategy and fostering international cooperation in the field of electricity and renewable energy.

Dr Albert Butare is currently Group CEO of Africa Energy Services Group Ltd (AESG), a company based in Kigali, Rwanda, with an branches in Kenya, Tanzania, the Kingdom of Lesotho and South Africa. A former Minister responsible for Energy and Water in the Republic of Rwanda, Albert has over 25 years’ experience in energy, water, and climate. His education background includes a PhD in energy policy formulation, tools and instruments for effective implementation. Post his Ministerial engagement, Dr Butare has been assisting a number o countrie on the continent on policy, strategy and reforms related to energy and climate change sectors. A renown expert in Energy and Climate Change in Africa region, Albert is winner of the East Africa Power Industry Convention Award as an outstanding Individual that has strongly contributed to the development of power sector in the region, a winner of the U.K. based Ashden Foundation’s International Award for Renewable Energies, and has been recognised as a Power Elite/Personality of the year 2018 by ESI Africa Magazine’s African Power Elites 2018 edition – an annual publication highlighting highly recognized leaders and projects that are at the helm of transforming the African power and energy sector.
Albert is currently assisting the Government of Lesotho under the World Bank support on “Lesotho Renewable Energy and Energy Access” initative and a he is a coordinator of the Lesotho National Energy Mission 300 Compact development and implementation.
